Meet Gabriel

When I first got my cheaper material doll, there was actually another doll I had wanted, but alas, as a poor professional minimum wage worker, it was out of my reach. So to justify for myself to at least buy a cheap one without ball joints, I said it was just to make sure I would actually make clothes for this one. The first one I got was a male doll from ebay. Not too expensive, and not too cheap either. Ball jointed doll that I bought a lot of clothes for over time, but never made one garment for. I felt it was too hard to find patterns for a male 1/3 doll and sort of stored him in the closet in the end.

So I get Thana, a cheap doll that I later realize is not the usual proportions as most of the 1/3 patterns, as she has a fair bossom and strong waist. The length of her feet is a whole other story. But I love her. Soon she has even more clothes than I have myself, all of them crafted with love. I had passed the test, and found I were an amazing doll seamstress. Yet, the money was even more scarce now as I spent a fortune on patterns and fabric for her. But my beloved baby needed to look fab, so I could not be contained.

In the end I sort of decided: Eh, do I really need another one when I am content enough with this? Yes it is a trial when I need to make sure about adding extra fabric for the chest and waist, and forget about getting stocking long enough for her. But she is mine, and I wouldn’t have anyone else.

Then it happened. This summer I worked a lot and by the end of September I had worked non stop 3 month, gotten a 100% job as the leader at a bingo, and decided, you know what? I deserve the more expensive doll now, and I found a store that had 20% off it until the end of August, so I ordered it.

Then came the wait. 3 months max for production. I waited impatiently. Also I learnt I shop when I am stressed out. That is not a good combination with knowing I have a big order on hold. Cause I could add more and more each month when my money came in. A hard day at work? Too tired to even move? Feeling sorry for myself? What works wonders? Well, don’t you feel like that pretty doll deserves some fabulous shoes? Or a nice winter outfit? Or a dress fit a Queen?

This was dangerous times for my savings account. But for once, I could afford it!

But then, I started wondering when my doll was going to be sent. It was 3 months now, and nothing. And in the back of my mind I thought: wait, what if the things I keep adding to the order actually has production time as well?

In panic I contacted the company and I was right. The last few orders had shoes in them and they kept my doll, my Queen! Away from me. It was expected at least a month longer for the shoes and a wig. All was lost. In my addiction to buying more and more, I had just pushed it all further away.

Thankfully, the company I ordered from, Alice collection, were real champs, and offered to send the doll and all that was done right away. Express shipping and then when the smaller stuff were done, they could be sent in a smaller shippment. I humbly accepted.

Then, just a week later, it was all delivered to my house. Two boxes. One with the doll and all her glam, and one for the acrylic stands I got for her and Thana to stop wobbling. I couldn’t get home from work fast enough that day.

Then I let the box lie there another hour cause I felt like it was going to loose all its magic the second I opened it.

First I opened the boring one. The stands. I put them up and set them aside, drawing out time for the real treasure. They were quite nice and I can see where the invicible part comes from. I were sure it wasn’t going to be able to really hold the heavy dolls, but they stand quite firm, and I do believe they could handle some hardcore poses as well if I wanted to try that.

This is my mess and I love my mess!

Then I could wait no longer. It was time. I opened up the biggest box, and pulled out the box. The logo of Mystic Kids on the front.

oooooooh, magical and mystic.

The doll I ordered was a normal 1/3 sized doll. As I understood it this one was more smart doll size than the one I had, and it would fit a lot better with most of the patterns I had looked at.

I ordered with just the face-up.

I was filled with awe as I pulled her out of her blankets (after unpacking ALL the clothes in there with her), and I started planning on how to dress her up now that I finally had her. I hadn’t really thought much over it when I ordered what hair and theme to go with her. I had sort of thought I would keep using the blue hair as I sort of liked it. But Slowly I realized that I sort of liked the blue hair on Thana. It would not mean it would work on the new doll. So I ordered white hair for her during one of the many splurgings after the first order. Of all of my characters, I had finally decided who I would name her after if the white hair fit her. I were really not sure it would fit, since she sort of looked quite adorable.

After facing plastic and other wrappings to free her, I could finally put my touches to her, hoping it would be as I had planned. That she could be the Queen I had envisioned.

And she was, and she was also so much more.

Meet Gabriel. My pretty Queen.
